Attempted murder charge thrown out against man accused of trying to hit officer

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - An attempted capital murder charge has been thrown out against a man accused of trying to run over a Colonial Heights police officer in March.
Two other charges, however, have been certified to a grand jury.
Police say in the incident on March 20, Rodriguez Jefferson was stopped after he was impeding traffic. The officer said he noticed "narcotic paraphernalia in the vehicle" while speaking with the driver - but Jefferson refused to get out of the vehicle.
Police say Jefferson threw the car into reverse, slammed into the patrol car behind him, then took off towards one of the officers at the scene.
The officer got out of the way and was not injured.
This week a drug charge and another traffic violation were set aside, while charges of eluding police and a failure to stop were certified to a grand jury.
There's currently no information on Jefferson's next court date.
