How Amazon's competitors are helping you

(WWBT) - This holiday season, more retailers are offering price matches, and in some cases, extra discounts to try to compete with Amazon.
For the first time ever, it is projected that you will spend more online this holiday shopping season than in stores. But stores hoping to win you back are not going down without a fight, which is why you might want to consider doing a little research on price matching.
Experts from Dealnews, a shopping comparison website, report more stores are offering those price-match policies to compete with Amazon. Some of the most lucrative price-match guarantees are from Home Depot and Staples, which offer a 110 percent price-match in-store.
That means if you find the same item offered there sold for less at another store, the retailer will make up the price difference and then slap on an additional 10 percent discount.
eBay announced earlier this year it will match Amazon.com, Jet.com and Walmart.com prices. Target, Toys R Us, Lowe's, Best Buy, Kohl's, and Walmart also offer price-matching.
Do not hesitate to ask for an additional discount to the match price at stores that do not advertise it. Retail experts say, in some cases, stores will honor that request.
Price-matches can pay off, especially on big-ticket items.
Many stores offer the policies because they know you likely will not ask. Just make sure to read the fine print.
Many will not match prices offered by third-party vendors on Amazon, and typically, huge sales like Black Friday will not count.
