FREDERICKSBURG, VA (WWBT) - An emergency sign repair has shut down northbound I-95 near the Rappahannock River Bridge in Fredericksburg.

As of 2 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation says all northbound lanes will be closed until about 3 p.m.

VDOT says an overhead sign was struck overnight by a vehicle, damaging the sign at mile marker 132.

Traffic is being detoured off I-95 at Exit 130/Route 3 in Fredericksburg. VDOT asks motorists to follow the posted detour route along Routes 3 and 1 to Route 17 Business, where motorists will be able to re-enter I-95.

VDOT expects major delays on I-95 and key connector roads in Fredericksburg. VDOT is asking motorists to avoid the area if possible or consider using Route 301 as an alternate route.
