TRAFFIC ALERT: Boulevard Bridge closed; GRTC to stop service at 8 p.m.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Boulevard Bridge in Richmond was closed around noon after heavy snow hit the area.
Through 11 a.m., Virginia State Police have responded to five crashes and 12 disabled vehicles in Richmond. The state police's reporting area includes Northern Neck and the Tri-Cities.
Across the Commonwealth, state police have responded to 68 crashes and 174 disabled vehicles. There have been no reports of fatalities.
GRTC is currently on snow routes and will be ending service at 8 p.m. Friday. The list of affected snow routes can be found on the GRTC Snow Routes webpage.
Virginia Department of Transportation pre-treated many area roads with a salt brine mixture to help keep snow from accumulating, but snow was expected to accumulate quickly through the afternoon. VDOT crews are urging Virginians to stay off the roads.
On Thursday, AAA, VDOT and Virginia State Police had a simple message at a press conference: when this storm rolls in, you should not be out.
They said that if you're on the road and stuck, they may not be able to get to you quickly.
