Governor McAuliffe to announce 'functional end' to veteran homelessness

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Today, we honor the brave men and women who have served our country to preserve our freedom and security. Huge crowds will be gathering at the Virginia War Memorial, where Governor Terry McAuliffe will make a huge announcement.
McAuliffe will be talking about what he's calling a "functional end" to homelessness among veterans in Virginia. He will give the keynote address at the ceremony Wednesday morning, honoring the selfless service of men and women who have sacrificed for us.
The governor will talk about his plan to move veterans on the street into permanent housing within several months, once they connect with the right help.
Since about this time last year, nearly 1,500 homeless veterans have transitioned to a home. The governor aims to expand those efforts.
The governor is setting a goal to make sure all veterans have a home by the end of 2017.
The Virginia War Memorial will be packed, as we pay tribute to all of our veterans - 830,000 living in Virginia, one of the largest numbers of any state.
