Washington marks 9/11 anniversary with tribute to fallen law enforcement officers
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Seventy-two law enforcement officers died while responding to the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
In the years since, hundreds more have lost their lives as a result of toxic dust exposure from that day.
Five hundred ninety-five of their names are engraved at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in downtown Washington.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the attacks, mourners gathered at the memorial to pay their respects.
Attorney General Todd Blanche served as the keynote speaker.
“You honor them not only in the way that you support by your presence, but also in the way that you honor your family and loved ones,” he said.
FBI Director Kash Patel took part in a reading of the names of the fallen officers.
The service included a reading of all the fallen officers’ names.
The memorial is open to the public year-round for people to pay their respects.
