HAMDEN, Conn. (WFSB/Gary News) - Authorities in Connecticut said a 32-year-old man died Thursday morning after he became trapped in a machine at a landscaping and masonry supply plant in Hamden.

Hamden fire officials said the man went into cardiac arrest in an industrial yard at Modern Metals Corp.

Police said the man was tending an industrial gravel machine when an accident occurred, causing traumatic asphyxiation.

Crews said they freed the man from the machine so he could receive medical treatment at the scene.

“Resuscitation efforts were made. However, due to injuries, the victim was pronounced [dead] on scene,” Hamden Fire Department Chief Shelly Carter said.

The Hamden Police Department, the Hamden Fire Department and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are conducting a joint investigation.

“At this time, the preliminary investigation does not indicate any evidence of malice or criminal wrongdoing by any third party,” officials said.

Authorities did not immediately identify the man.
