Fatal shooting under investigation in Hopewell

HOPEWELL, Va. (WWBT) - Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in Hopewell.

According to the Hopewell Police Department, officers responded to the 300 block of East Cawson Street at approximately 11:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a male subject who had been shot. The victim was transported to Tri-Cities Hospital but died from his injuries.

Police identified the victim Monday as 32-year-old Andwuan Stewart, of Hopewell.

Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.
