Avula outlines proposal for Gilpin Court
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -Richmond Mayor Danny Avula shared his vision for affordable public housing as officials continue planning the future of Richmond’s Gilpin Court neighborhood.
Avula presented a two-part “resident-centered redevelopment model” to the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
One part of the plan involves creating a transparent governing body between the city and residents. The other component is what Avula calls “a great people plan.”
The plan aims to give families access to high-quality housing and support to remain lease-compliant. It also seeks to provide connections to childcare, education, workforce opportunities and health resources during redevelopment.
The future of Gilpin Court remains unclear after RRHA tabled a vote on its transfer in September.
