Virginia Elk Cam returns for the 8th season

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The Virginia Department of Wildlife is bringing back the Virginia Elk Cam for an 8th season.
Officials want you to experience the restored elk herd, otherwise known as Appalachia’s Greatest Conservation Success Story, on your phone, tablet or computer.
The camera is running from now until December. It’s operating on a reclaimed mine in Buchanan County.
As the weather starts to cool down, you’ll find that the elk are usually more active during the day.
Later on in the year, you can hear the elk bugling during the breeding season in October.
The elk camera is part of a movement to restore elk in Kentucky and Virginia.
Between 2012 and 2014, 75 elk were relocated into Buchanan County from eastern Kentucky. Now, more than 250 elk live together as a herd.
