RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—Residents at the Crystal Lakes Apartments in Chesterfield contacted 12 On Your Side frustrated with their living conditions and feeling like their concerns aren’t being taken seriously.

One resident—wishing to remain anonymous—said she’s gone to the leasing office multiple times, asking for the trash to be cleaned up when it’s supposed to be, which residents said is three days a week.

“I felt like we were in New York City we had so much trash out here. I’ve never seen so much trash,” said the resident.

But ahead of Labor Day Weekend, residents say dumpsters were overflowing and attracting vultures.

“By Friday, you have buzzards or whatever out there in the trash can... the parking lot was full,” said the resident.

While residents are concerned about the trash being a health hazard - they’re also alleging major maintenance issues - that don’t get fixed in a timely manner.

“When I first moved out here, the very first day... the toilet from the upstairs bathroom fell through the ceiling. It was downstairs,” the anonymous resident said.

“We have mold in the house, the air conditioner’s busted,” said another resident who also wanted to remain anonymous.

At the end of the day, they said that what they want is simple:

“A better, clean neighborhood,” one resident said. “I want accountability,” said another.

12 On Your Side reporter Jennifer Blake went into the leasing office to ask about the list of concerns, but office workers said they couldn’t comment, and a manager wasn’t there.

She left her business card in hopes of still getting some answers. Blake also left a voicemail with the property management company, LEVCO Management, but no one has gotten back to her.
