HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - A Henrico resident is sharing their concerns after a series of car break-ins near dozens of apartment homes in Highland Springs.

The resident, who contacted 12 On Your Side and wanted to remain anonymous for safety reasons, woke up early Thursday morning to a scene of shattered windows and glass along South Oak Avenue.

“I woke up to the police knocking on my door and I told the police officer he had the wrong door, and he said no this is the right door. He informed us there were a series of break-ins,” said the resident.

The resident said neighbors reported up to one dozen cars were broken into on Thursday.

12 On Your Side reached out to Henrico Police about these cases. A spokesperson said officers received three reports of car break-ins in this area on Thursday morning.

“It’s crazy to think that you’re sleeping at night and people can walk by now with a transponder or whatever tool they use and nobody’s car alarm will go off and people can break in your car and take whatever they want,” said the resident.

Henrico Police said some items were taken from those cars, which the resident said includes car titles and money.

“What are you breaking into these cars for, like what is the purpose of you coming over here and disturbing the peace?” asked the Henrico resident.

This latest string of car break-ins comes as areas across Central Virginia see a spike in these types of cases.

On Thursday, the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office made a Facebook post about taking a report for car break-ins in the Brickshire neighborhood.

As the investigation continues, neighbors will be looking out for each other to make sure everyone is safe.

“If you can come out here and park right beside somebody’s car and look up dead at their camera on the Ring camera and see that you’re still being recorded and still have the nerve to break into somebody’s car, you’re very bold,” the resident told 12 On Your Side.

Henrico Police is asking those who had their car broken into and did not report it to call their Telephone Reporting Unit at 804-501-4810.
