RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -NASCAR fans get ready to start your engines!

Spring race weekend is back at the Richmond Raceway.

With 400 laps and 300 miles to cover, racers are competing to cross that finish line first this Sunday.

Fans are already here setting up ahead of this weekend’s races and are ready to fill these seats to cheer on their favorite driver!

“Our family, you know, were here in the permanent campground right here. We see the same people twice a year, and it’s like family when we see them again,” said long-time camper Rick Powers.

Since 2006, Rick Powers has been camping at this same spot at the Richmond Raceway.

Fans started showing up Tuesday to set up their camps. They are all waiting for the light to turn green tomorrow evening.

“I like the young guns. The young guys coming up in the sport, they’ve earned being here,” said Powers.

Race weekend begins with Virginia is for Racing Lovers 150 on Friday night and ends with the Toyota Care 250 on Saturday afternoon. In between the races, there is plenty to do, including meeting the drivers and attending concerts!

“Of course, Toyota treats our fans like VIPs here. They’ve got a great Toyota racing experience right out in the fan zone,” said Waran. “They’re going to have surprises and giveaways, food, drink, and of course some driver appearances that’s going to make it really special.”

They are also hosting their first-ever Easter Sunday service.

“Of course, we have a lot of things planned for the community. In fact, on Easter Sunday at 3 p.m. right here at the race track, we’re doing a wonderful Easter service,” said Waran. “It’s free and open to the community; you do not need a race ticket. But we are so excited to do this in partnership with Coach Joe Gibbs, driver Corey Lajoie, and Grammy-award-winning singer Michael Tait right here at the Amphitheater.”

That all leads up to the main event: the Toyota Owners 400. The green flag will be raised at 7 p.m.

“We’re excited to have everyone join us from all 50 states and a few countries right here in the Richmond region,” said Waran. “That’s a wonderful thing we get to do. It’s very special to our region and to our commonwealth that we get to do this not once but twice a year.”

Tickets are still available, you can find them over on their website.
