32-year-old man found dead after officer-involved shooting in Chesterfield
CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police are investigating after a “disturbance” turned into an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday morning.
At about 9:45 a.m. on April 7, police were dispatched to “a disturbance involving a weapon” in the 4000 block of Frye Terrace.
Officials say the person who called police reported a man was on their property, holding a long gun and yelling, and at one point made it to the caller’s front door.
While police were on their way to the scene, the caller said the suspect went back to his house.
Upon arrival, officers went to the suspect’s home and began checking the area for him.
“Officers identified themselves and saw the man, armed with a rifle, in the doorway of his residence. Additional investigation confirmed the suspect brandished the rifle at the officers, pointing the firearm in their direction. One officer fired at the suspect, who then retreated inside his residence,” Chesterfield Police said in a release. “Officers established a perimeter around the residence and additional police resources responded to the scene.”
Using a drone, officers cleared the home and saw the suspect, Tamondrick J. Burroughs Jr., 32, down on the floor. When they entered the house they determined Burroughs was dead.
No officers were physically injured during the incident.
The officer who fired at the man will be placed on administrative leave.
The incident remains under investigation.
