VCU releases its latest Commonwealth Poll

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The new Commonwealth Poll is here for everyone to see just a few weeks before election day.

The race for attorney general remains close. The poll found that Attorney General Jason Miyares leads former Del. Jay Jones 45% to 42%.

It’s a net 9-point swing since the last Commonwealth Poll.

Heading over to the governor’s race, former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger holds a 7-point lead over Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears at 49% to 42%.

The poll reported that it is down from a 9-point margin it conducted earlier in the year.

Finally, the race for lieutenant governor. Sen. Ghazala Hashmi holds a 44% to 43% edge over John Reid. It’s down from the 4-point margin she held in the last Commonwealth Poll.

The poll also highlighted some of the top issues influencing voters.

27% of registered voters identified the rising cost of living as their main issue, followed by immigration at 14% and women’s reproductive rights at 12%.

The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University released the report on Tuesday. The college conducted the poll from Oct. 6-14.

The poll interviewed 842 adults through telephone, ages 18 or older, living in Virginia. The margin is error for the sample size is 3.95 points.
