Body discovered in the James River, investigation underway

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Police are conducting an investigation following the recovery of a body from the James River.

On Saturday at 8:44 a.m., officers responded to the Mayo Bridge to assist firefighters who were called to help a man found unresponsive in the river.

When the Richmond Fire Department water rescue team recovered the male, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities report no signs of foul play.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
