Driver charged with reckless driving after car crashes into Richmond sinkhole
Repairs were made to Strawberry Street overnight
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A driver has been charged with reckless driving after their car fell into a sinkhole at the intersection of West Broad and Strawberry Street on Thursday afternoon.
“A six-inch cast iron water main in the 2200 block of West Broad Street in the City of Richmond has broken, giving way to a sinkhole,” the Department of Public Utilities said.
One car was stuck inside the apparent sinkhole until officials could pull it out just after 3 p.m. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
DPW remained on the scene for several hours, making repairs overnight before the road reopened.
On Friday morning, Richmond Police confirmed that the driver was charged because the street was already blocked off due to stability concerns.
