Friends hold vigil for Richmond man gunned down on lawnmower

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Friends are remembering a man gunned down in the city's Southside this week. Jimmy Bishop was shot and killed Monday while riding his lawnmower near Jefferson Davis Highway.
Thursday night, there was a huge turnout at a vigil to remember the man as investigators work to find the person who killed him.
Dozens turned out to remember Jimmy, known for riding around town on his lawnmower, and it was at a Grab-N-Go store where the beloved Richmonder made his last stop.
Friends and family gathered Thursday to say goodbye.
"I lost the best friend in my life and I never can get him back. Somebody took and killed him for no reason at all," Ada Southall said.
The crowd on hand at Thursday's vigil couldn't understand why someone would want to hurt Jimmy. Friends of the man said he had cognitive challenges, but held an incredible heart.
"He would help anybody," remarked Will Hall, who lived with Jimmy for a while. "You know, he was an open heart, anybody who needed something, he was right there."
"He would help me, he was very helpful. Very kind-hearted and very talkative, he'd talk your ear off, if you let him. And um, he didn't deserve this," friend of Bishop, Jennifer Suttler, said.
As a crowd lit candles and released balloons into the sky she said, "Look at this, Jimmy! Look at all of these people here just for you."
The investigators that are working this case came out to the vigil tonight and they said they are really close to cracking the case open and, eventually, they will solve this case.
Those with tips and information that can help investigators are asked to call Richmond Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
