East End neighbors upset after homicide, death investigation in 24 hours

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Just as Henrico County investigators wrap up a murder scene at one end of the Coventry Gardens Apartments Saturday night, a death investigation began at another end Sunday morning.
Shattered glass and dampened spirits is all that is left after Henrico Police found a man dead on the ground at Coventry Gardens. Joseph Thompson and his wife heard gunshots rang out around 11 p.m. Saturday.
"Me and my wife said it sound like a pump shot gun," Thompson said.
Many questions still linger about what led up to the deadly shooting. Police said they are vigorously searching for suspects.
Tragedy in this community doesn't stop here. A few hours later, police were called back to the apartments to find another person dead.
Neighbor Kiara Arnette lives next door to where the second victim was found, and she was heartbroken by the news.
"We used to have our little conversations and stuff, good times. He used to bring the guitar and play on the porch or whatever," Arnette said.
She and her friends say the recent rash of violence is uncommon in their neighborhood.
"I've been living around here for almost three years, and I've never seen nothing like this happen like this back to back," Arnette said.
Investigators back on the other side of the complex today searching for evidence in Saturday's nights deadly shooting.
Joseph Thompson is hoping these recent deaths are an anomaly for his community, forcing neighbors to stand together.
"Hopefully we all can come together as one and learn how to get along with each other," Thompson said.
If you have any information on these two incidents you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
