Overnight shooting in Henrico sends one to the hospital

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The Henrico Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting in the West End.

Police tell us around 1:21 a.m. Saturday they responded to the 8600 block Eversham Court North for reports of a shooting. Once on scene officers located a man in a grassy common area with gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

They say the man was shot following an earlier altercation with a couple of people the victim knows only by nicknames. When he stepped outside, a physical fight ensued. As the fight ended, he was walking back to his residence, heard a single gunshot, looked back, saw the firearm and a subject discharge the weapon in his direction.

Officers say it is unknown at this time if that suspect was one of two from the earlier incident or the fight. The investigation is ongoing.
